Most common side effects
Like any medication, amlodipine can cause some side effects. Most are usually mild.
Swelling in the ankles
It is the most common side effect.
Many people notice swelling in their feet or ankles, especially at the end of the day, after walking a lot or standing for a long time.
This happens because the blood vessels are more relaxed and some of the fluid can accumulate in the leg tissues.
In most cases:
- It’s not dangerous.
- It doesn’t mean the heart is failing.
- It can improve by elevating your legs while resting.
If the swelling is very bothersome, it is important to consult a doctor.
Sensation of heat or redness
Some people feel warmth in their face or notice their face is redder during the first few weeks.
This is usually temporary and occurs because more blood circulates near the skin.
Headache
It can also appear at the beginning of treatment due to the body’s adaptation to the decrease in blood pressure.
It usually disappears over time.
