Well-Known Florida Realtor Melanie Hyer and Her Two Young Daughters Discovered in Doral Residence

A South Florida neighborhood was shaken after a welfare check at a family home led to a tragic discovery.

Friends remembered Melanie Hyer as someone who always brought energy and positivity wherever she went. Known throughout the community as a successful real estate professional and devoted mother, she was a familiar face to many in Doral Isles.

The incident came to light after a family friend requested a welfare check at a residence in the Catalina section of the community. Officers arrived at the home Tuesday evening and discovered four people inside.

The victims were identified as 46-year-old Melanie Hyer, her daughters Savannah Whiten, 11, and Sienna Whiten, 8, and the girls’ father, 42-year-old Ryan Charles Whiten.

Reports indicated that Melanie and Ryan had separated years earlier but continued to co-parent their daughters. Both had remarried after their split, although those marriages later ended. Ryan’s former wife said she was shocked by the news, describing him as a loving father who cared deeply for his daughters.

She also revealed that Ryan had contacted her three weeks before the incident to express his appreciation for having her in his life. Looking back, she felt the message carried a different meaning.

As investigators reviewed the family’s final days, neighbors recalled seeing Savannah and Sienna riding bicycles with Ryan on Sunday. At the time, nothing seemed unusual.

Authorities later confirmed that all four individuals were found deceased inside the home. Investigators said the victims suffered stab wounds and concluded that Ryan allegedly killed Melanie and the two girls before taking his own life. The case has been classified as an apparent murder-suicide.

Officials have not released a motive, and the investigation remains ongoing.
