Health signs in older people that indicate the need for greater care and support.

2. Constant fatigue and extreme weakness

A clear sign of the last year of life is fatigue that doesn’t go away even with rest. The person may:

  • Sleep many hours.

  • Having difficulty getting up.

  • Feeling exhausted even when talking or walking.

The body begins to conserve energy for its most basic functions. The heart, lungs, and muscles work less intensely. This isn’t laziness or a lack of willpower; it’s a real physical transformation.

3. Changes in memory and behavior

Many older adults at this stage present with:

  • Frequent forgetfulness.

  • Confusion.

  • Difficulty following conversations.

  • Moments of disconnection.

It’s also common for them to become quieter, less interested in conversations or activities. This doesn’t mean they’ve stopped loving, but rather that their minds process the world differently.

Although they may not always be able to express it, they still feel the affection, the presence, and the tone of voice.
