Have you ever taken a leisurely stroll through a park, across a meadow, or along a hiking trail and later noticed that your pant legs are covered in tiny, clinging particles?
It can be surprising—and a little disconcerting—especially when they seem to appear out of nowhere. While they may seem mysterious at first, the explanation is actually quite simple and completely natural.
In most cases, these tiny travel companions are plant seeds, commonly known as burrs or burdock seeds. Certain plants have developed a clever survival strategy that allows their seeds to attach themselves to passing animals—or humans—and thus spread to new areas. When your clothing touches the plants, the seeds stick to them and are carried along.
