Looking back, I realize we never truly learned to listen to her. We admired her strength without seeing that she was suffocating under the weight of expectations. She probably never learned to ask for help, and we didn’t give her the space to do so. The wedding we celebrated with such joy may have represented an imposed life for her, a point of no return she didn’t feel capable of facing.
