Vinegar: the secret to softer towels, whiter clothes and fresher laundry

Who hasn’t taken their laundry out of the washing machine hoping for a fresh, clean scent… only to be greeted by rough towels or slightly dull clothes? No matter how many products we try, the results aren’t always guaranteed. What if the solution was already hiding in your cupboard? Discreet, economical, and surprisingly effective, white vinegar could well become your best laundry ally, without you having to change all your habits.

Why vinegar is a must-have for laundry

White vinegar has been used for generations for household cleaning, but its effectiveness on laundry is sometimes overlooked. Thanks to its natural acidity, it helps dissolve detergent residue, limescale, and impurities that cling to the fibers. The result: softer, cleaner, and noticeably fresher fabrics.

Unlike some commercial products, it works gently, without damaging fabrics or leaving an invisible film. It’s also a popular solution for those who want to simplify their routine while taking care of their home.

Eliminate odors and get fresh laundry

Towels that smell damp, sportswear that retains odors… this is a common problem. White vinegar is particularly effective at neutralizing stubborn odors by acting directly at the source, where moisture and residue accumulate.

In practice, pour  250 ml of white vinegar  (the equivalent of a large glass) into the fabric softener compartment during washing. For heavily soiled textiles, such as towels, soak them  for 1 hour  in  5 liters of lukewarm water (30 to 40°C)  with  500 ml of white vinegar added .
A pleasant touch: add  5 to 10 drops of lavender or lemon essential oil  to the mixture for a fresh and delicate note.
