It is common that when we look in the mirror or when we touch areas such as the neck, armpits or groin, we notice small bumps on the skin that we had not noticed before.

Many people describe them as “small bumps” or “skin lumps,” and they can cause considerable concern. In most cases, these growths are what are known as skin tags —also called   acrochordons  , or soft fibromas —and these benign skin lesions are quite common in adults.

Unlike warts, which are associated with specific viruses, skin tags, which are called acrochordons, do not have a viral origin.

These usually form mostly in areas where the skin suffers continuous friction or pressure, such as the folds of the neck, armpits, eyelids, groin, among others.

There are conditions that increase the likelihood of developing them, such as excess weight, since it greatly increases the friction of the folds, also insulin resistance or diabetes, and hormonal changes, such as during pregnancy.

Clothing also plays a fundamental role in its appearance, such as the constant use of necklaces, tight clothing or fabrics that rub against the skin can also favor its appearance.
