No more endless buzzing of flies, mosquito bites ruining summer nights, or sudden cockroach infestations in the kitchen. What if the solution was already right under your nose, in your cupboards? Using everyday ingredients, it’s entirely possible to keep these unwanted pests away without resorting to harmful insecticides. Here are some eco-friendly, ultra-effective, and easy-to-implement methods for regaining a peaceful home.

A homemade mosquito trap
Nothing is more exasperating than those flying insects that turn our summer evenings into a nightmare. The good news is that a homemade trap, in just a few minutes, can drastically reduce their numbers. Here’s how to make it.
Ingredients :
- 5 tablespoons of sugar
- 1 tablespoon of yeast
- 250 ml of water
- 1 two-liter plastic bottle
Steps:
- Heat the water and dissolve the sugar in it.
- Add the yeast and mix well.
- Cut the bottle in half and pour the mixture into the bottom half.
- Invert the top of the bottle to form a funnel.
- Place the trap near the windows or on the balcony.
Why does it work?
Mosquitoes are irresistibly attracted to the carbon dioxide released during the fermentation of the mixture. Once inside, they cannot get out.

A homemade repellent against cockroaches and flies
Cockroaches and flies love crumbs and damp areas. To discourage them from settling in, nothing beats a plant-based spray whose scent repels them.
Ingredients :
- 15 bay leaves
- 10 cloves
- 250 ml of water
Preparation :
- Boil the water with the bay leaves and cloves for 10 minutes.
- Allow to cool, then pour into a spray bottle.
- Spray in strategic locations: kitchen, pantry, bathroom…
Why does it work?
Bay leaves and cloves give off an odor that these pests hate, forcing them to leave.
