Glass Containers
Many nutrition and food safety professionals recommend glass containers for food storage because they offer several advantages:
- No known chemical migration into food.
- Suitable for acidic and fatty foods.
- Durable, reusable, and easy to clean.
- Available with airtight silicone seals for better freshness.
Although glass containers typically cost more upfront, they are long-lasting and environmentally friendly.
Other Eco-Friendly Alternatives
Additional options include:
- Compostable films made from corn starch or regenerated cellulose.
- Beeswax or wax-coated food wraps for covering cold foods.
- Stainless steel food containers.
Note: Aluminum foil is generally suitable for many food storage uses, but it is not recommended for every type of food or cooking application. Always follow the manufacturer’s recommendations and avoid using it with highly acidic foods when inappropriate.
