A year after the divorce, I was called back to witness the reading of the family’s will. They laughed when I entered the room, thinking I was just a replaced past… until the will was read and everyone was shocked.

Then the lawyer closed the document… and took out a smaller sealed envelope.

“Now,” he said, “we proceed to the final clause.”

Diego frowned.

“What clause?”

The lawyer turned the envelope toward me.

“The one that can only be opened in Lucía Alvarez’s presence.”

The room shifted.

For the first time, they weren’t looking at me like a memory—

but like something unknown.

I stepped forward.

Took the envelope.

My hands were steady.

Inside was a letter.

And a key.

“You may read it aloud,” the lawyer said.

I hesitated—then nodded.

This moment didn’t belong to me alone.
