British Liver Trust notes that liver disease can make it harder to stop small cuts from bleeding. That can matter on the feet because even small cracks, blisters, or shaving nicks may seem more noticeable than before.
11. Nail changes
Advanced liver disease can sometimes be associated with white or pale nails and clubbing. These changes are more often described in fingernails, but nail changes in general can be part of cirrhosis.
12. Foot swelling plus other liver warning signs
Feet symptoms matter more when they show up together with classic liver signs such as jaundice, dark urine, pale stools, abdominal swelling, fatigue, nausea, or confusion. If foot or ankle swelling is happening alongside those symptoms, liver disease becomes more important to rule out.
Important reminder
These signs are not specific to liver disease. Swollen feet can come from heart, kidney, vein, or thyroid problems. Itchy feet can come from eczema or fungal infection. Numb feet are often caused by diabetes or neuropathy from other causes. That is why symptoms alone cannot confirm a liver problem.
When to get checked
Seek medical advice if you have new or persistent foot swelling, unexplained itching, frequent cramps, numbness, bruising, or walking problems, especially if they come with jaundice, abdominal swelling, dark urine, pale stools, or unusual fatigue. Mayo Clinic says lasting symptoms that worry you should be evaluated, and NHS notes that many serious liver symptoms appear after the disease has progressed.
