How to make geraniums bloom abundantly

Geraniums are among the most popular and sought-after plants . When properly cared for, they produce beautiful, colorful flowers. You’ve probably seen balconies full of blooming geraniums, perhaps wondering why your geranium plant isn’t blooming as well.

One of the most common reasons geraniums stop blooming is their exposure to very cold temperatures, such as frost or wind. Geraniums should be protected by bringing them indoors during the coldest days. But this isn’t the only cause of your geraniums’ failure to bloom : below we list some tricks.

Place them in a bright area

These beautiful plants cannot flower without the right amount of natural light, that is, sunlight. Indoor, artificial light isn’t intense enough to stimulate geranium growth. But be careful: don’t place geraniums in direct sunlight if they’re in a shady location; the drastic change could cause them to die.

That said, it’s important to know that geraniums can flower even in partial shade (not full shade), so don’t be discouraged if you live in an apartment that doesn’t get adequate sunlight.

Give the plant the right space to grow

When we buy a geranium plant and bring it home, we must assume that it has been in the same pot for a long time. For this very reason, the plant should be transplanted into a larger pot, to give the roots adequate space and the opportunity to obtain nutrients from a larger amount of soil.

As they grow, the plants must be transplanted into larger pots, otherwise they will not flower or even die.
