🇲🇽💧Mexico defies Trump and bets on water sovereignty in Baja California
Tijuana, Baja California — The water dispute between Mexico and the United States is once again raising tensions on the northern border. Amid growing concerns about drought and the needs of California’s agricultural producers, Donald Trump asserted that Mexico is harming farmers in that state and warned that he could take further action.
The US president has demanded that Mexico fulfill its commitments related to water supply and, according to statements released regarding the dispute, has demanded more than 200 million cubic meters before the end of the year, accompanying the threat with a possible additional 5% tariff on Mexican products.
The situation arises as California faces severe pressure on its water resources. Farmers in the state have warned of difficulties maintaining crop irrigation and the need to find new sources of supply.
However, Mexico is reportedly taking a completely different direction.

The desalination plant project in Playas de Rosarito has become a strategic asset for Baja California. The infrastructure, based on reverse osmosis technology, aims to significantly increase the availability of drinking water for the coastal region.
