Born Valérie Chérès in 1962 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, she chose to pursue a career in film using her mother’s surname. She quickly became an iconic actress of the 1980s. Her first starring role was in Jim McBride’s Breathless , the American adaptation of Jean-Luc Godard’s film of the same name, where she shared the screen with the legendary Richard Gere. She later starred in the successful film The Year of the Jellyfish, directed by Christopher Frank.
Annoyed by the numerous offers—especially those that showcased her body—in film, she declared: “It’s true that I suddenly had a problem with nudity. I had accepted it because most female roles required it in the 80s. But I felt it was the only thing people remembered. It got to the point where finding myself naked on a set became unbearable!” she confessed. For this reason, Valérie Kaprisky decided to leave the film industry and dedicate herself to television.
